Why my baby girl doesn't get much floor time...

Roman spent a lot of his first several months on the floor, just hangin' out on a blanket or quilt. Even with an exuberant black lab around, he chilled out in the living room while the rest of us moved around him.

Selah spends a lot of time on the couch, in her bassinet, or in a bouncy chair. I don't know if it is purely psychological on my end, but somehow she seems safer if she is up or contained in someway.

Tonight we laid her down on a blanket for the first time in awhile. Roman seized the opportunity to lay down next to her. Stand over her. Talk to her. Then... Roll over her, jump over her, and tap her with his feet. I calmly explained to him that we do not ever use our feet to touch our sister, and that he must be gentle. He looked up with those big brown eyes and clearly explained his kicking behavior. "Soccer," he stated matter of factly. I then explained to him that we do not use our baby sister to play soccer. He returned with, "Soccer, Goal."

After at least one timeout Roman seemed to get the idea of gentleness. For this evening at least. We will not be leaving them alone together for awhile.
